- Kitchen Playdates by Lauren Bank Deen is based on a situation that every parent will recognize: Once you have kids, your Saturday night just isn't the same anymore. If you're nostalgic for the days of long, leisurely dinners with plenty of grown-up conversation, you need a kitchen playdate. Invite over your friends and their kids to cook, play, eat, and drink. The food is definitely family friendly but has enough sophistication to keep everyone happy.

- Despite the fact that I don't have children, I LOVE this book--now that I've had a good look through, I'm loath to let it go to my friend Robin. It turns out, the recipes are terrific for adults, too! If you have kids and like to entertain, you need this book. If you don't have kids but love to cook easy recipes with interesting and sophisticated flavors, you should deeply consider buying this book. I just ordered another copy for Robin because mine's staying right here.

- Real Tips for Cooking with Kids: With Author Lauren Deen
Lauren Deen, author of Kitchen Playdates, offers three great tips for getting the most out of your cooking-with-kids experience:
- Set up ahead of time. You can put older kids to work, but it may be easier to lay out all the necessary ingredients and kitchen tools for younger chefs.
- Sneak in some lessons. Measuring ingredients is a perfect way to reinforce math skills. You can also make it a point to build hand skills and confidence while whipping up a delicious meal.
- Fill up on fruit, not on treats. For her picnic lunch, Lauren packed frozen grapes, which double as an extra ice pack and make a refreshing and healthy summer snack.
- Try Lauren's parmesan chicken finger recipe with your children or friends.
